Set of 6 Argyle Dining Chairs Designed By Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Italy 1980’s
A set of six ‘Argyle’ dining chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1897 for the Cranstons Argyle street Tea Rooms in Glasgow and later reproduced by Italian manufactures in the 1980’s.
The chairs feature a tall geometric ladder-backs with a signature carved top rail and upholstered drop-in seats, the set includes five dining chairs and one carver chair. All made with solid ash in a ebonised finish.
They’re are slight differences in three of the chairs and may have been purchased from different makers. The side stretchers are slightly higher on three of the chairs and the back slats have been connected to the carved rail differently as shown in the pictures. The drop in seats also sit slightly different but this could be adjusted if being reupholstered.
All the chairs are in good condition with all joints tight and strong. Two chairs have a slight surface crack to the carved top rail but doesn’t detract from the use of the chairs. The upholstery is in useable condition with some wear but would benefit from a fresh upholstery.
